Two-Day Workshop Saturday, July 11 & Sunday, July 12 10:00AM – 3:00PM
Take your pastels beyond ordinary with this lively workshop where participants will leave bland and timid concepts behind and learn to unleash their inner creative force. Students will experiment with different papers and pastel brands as they learn the direct and expressive application techniques of this fast and flexible medium. Using their own landscape reference photos as springboards, students will use value and color studies to create dynamic compositions. Quick demos and positive mentoring are hallmarks of Mary’s popular workshops.

Class Size: Minimum 4 students, Maximum 12
Level: Advanced beginners and intermediate students

Bio: Born in Baltimore, Mary spent her childhood on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Studio Art at Mount Holyoke College and has master’s degrees in both art and journalism. She was a corporate art consultant to companies including Ashland Oil, Inc; Nationwide Insurance Company, and the New York Power Authority. Following a career in education administration at the University of Delaware, she returned to the Eastern Shore and to painting full-time, primarily in pastels and acrylics. She maintains a studio in historic Chestertown, MD and is a member of the Washington Society of Landscape Painters, the Maryland Pastel Society and the American Impressionist Society.
