Sculpting Land and Sea, Dimensional Monotypes: Visiting Artist Workshop with Caryn Martin
Saturday, February 7, 11:00am - 3:30pm

One day workshop on Sat, Feb. 7th, 2026, 11:00am – 3:30pm
This workshop allows participants to explore the sculptural possibilities of printmaking. Working with sheets of transparent, malleable paper, attendees will make monotypes that capture seascapes and landscapes. Then, attendees will be encouraged to fold, cut, wrinkle, bend, and tear the prints to create works that appear to jump off of the wall. Demonstration, brainstorming, and discussion will help the participants take risks and push the boundary between two-dimensional and three-dimensional art.
Caryn Martin, a Baltimore-based artist and educator, was a 2022 Finalist for the Trawick Contemporary Art Awards. She received MAT and MFA degrees from Maryland Institute College of Art, and has taught color theory, two-dimensional design, and introductory time-based media classes at various institutions. Martin has shown her work at Art on Paper in New York, the Baltimore Fine Art Print Fair, Catalyst Contemporary, Creative Alliance, Maryland Art Place, St. John’s College, Anne Arundel Community College, Adkins Arboretum, School 33, Baltimore Theatre Project, and Institute of Contemporary Art Baltimore. She has also exhibited work at Sulphur Studios in Georgia, Broward College in Florida, and Marshall University in West Virginia. In recent years, she has participated in residencies at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, VCCA France in Auvillar, ACI Residency in Italy, and at Windy Mowing in Vermont.
This workshop is being offered in conjunction with Caryn Martin’s solo exhibition in the Selections Gallery, “the Skin of Water”, up through Feb 22, 2026.
