Don Saff Lecture: Robert Rauschenberg in China and the Overseas Culture Interchange
Friday, March 27th, 2026 at 6pm

Donald Saff’s collaborations with Robert Rauschenberg began in the early 1970s, shortly after he founded the legendary printmaking workshop “Graphicstudio” at the University of South Florida, Tampa, where he served as a Distinguished Professor, Chair of the Visual Arts Department, Founding Dean of the College of Fine Arts. Among their numerous collaborations were experimental print projects including Made in Tampa (1972–73), Crops (1973), and the Airport Suite (1974). Saff also served as artistic director for the Rauschenberg Overseas Culture Interchange (ROCI) project following their trip to China and the creation of the 100 foot photograph, Chinese Summerhall in 1982, currently on view at the Academy Art Museum. In addition to his work with Robert Rauschenberg, Saff is also known for his prolific collaborations with leading late-twentieth-century artists such as Roy Lichtenstein, Nancy Graves, James Rosenquist, Jim Dine, and James Turrell. Please join us for an evening of storytelling and exploration as Donald Saff shares his insight on Robert Rauschenberg’s belief in art as a tool for diplomacy and social change.
This event is offered in conjunction with the exhibition Rauschenberg 100: New Connections. The event is FREE, but preregistration is required.
