Exploring color relationships built on strong value structures and shapes will allow the painter to capture his/her “responses to nature” on canvas. Because color is the most personal and expressive of all elements in a landscape, understanding the color wheel is extremely important to achieving the feelings of time and place in a landscape painting. This class will explore ways to reap the benefits of good values and color choices for landscapes, including smart use of color opposites and color harmonies to get the viewer’s attention. Personalized instruction and helpful critiques will be provided to accommodate each student’s painting style. Students should bring their own landscape photos with which they have a strong personal connection.
