This class is for a student with some watercolor painting experience. Lessons will cover painting and brush-handling techniques, color theory and pigments, mixing color directly on the paper, painting shape rather than line, using masking fluid, and layering washes. Students will learn to reference both photos and concrete objects such as flowers. Each week, students will sample different papers, and focus on the work of master artists — including Hopper’s psychological paintings, Demuth’s lively figures, or O’Keefe’s oversized compressed space flowers. Class pauses at 3:00 p.m. for a short critique. Heather is available to help resolve problems, or work on individual painting issues until at least 3:30 p.m.
Materials List: No supplies mandatory for first class, but bring what you already own. Instructor will provide “pure” pigments for students to try and some papers. If you have any questions contact Heather at (410) 310-5615 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
