2024 Featured Artist
Laura Baring-Gould
Laura Baring-Gould creates large-scale sculptures, epic ephemeral installations, and small intimate objects that create wonder in the palm of a hand. For over 30 years a fascination with elemental materials that include metal, honey, salt, beeswax, straw, water and light have resulted in works buoyant with meaning and mythological ballast.
Now anchored in traditions of craft and intimate perceptual experience, Baring-Gould distills archetypally-resonate objects into metal and metaphor. Inspired by ancient techniques of bronze casting with honed skills of metal finishing and patina work, her work transforms what is emphermal into talismans of enduring permanence.
In addition to being recognized by the Academy of Art Museum, Baring-Gould’s work has won awards in craft exhibitions, shows and festivals throughout the United States. Her public art works and installations have been sponsored the National Park Service, numerous cities, musuems and non-profit art centers. Laura lives and keeps bees in Somerville, MA.
