The Museum’s exhibition Fickle Mirror: Dialogues in Self-portraiture (through October 10, 2022) focused on how artists see and present themselves to the world. We are all individuals with different beliefs, likes and dislikes. How do we want others to see us?
One of the artists featured in the show, Njideka Akunyili Crosby, explores the complexities of her dual Nigerian and American backgrounds in her work. The “Exploring Identity” community art project asked people of all ages to create art that reflects their unique identities. Through a process that involved painting, tracing, and cutting out life-size silhouettes, participants created a collective portrait of our diverse community, showcasing the power of art as a tool for self-expression.
