Saturday, January 30th & Sunday, January 31st, 10:00AM- 3:00PM

Weekend Workshop: Saturday, January 30th & Sunday, January 31st, 10:00AM- 3:00PM
In this class, exhibiting artist Matt Klos will offer an in-depth exploration of painting interior scenes with complex variations in light, from deep shadows to soft highlights. In conversation with The Academy’s current exhibition of landscape painting, From Sea to Shining Sea, this two-day workshop will begin with a private tour of the exhibition to discuss how these past masters of the landscape rendered light in their work. Then, through a combination of lecture, hands-on demonstrations, and individual attention, students will delve into techniques for depicting diverse qualities of light in their own painting. Special emphasis will also be placed on learning to mix color, experimenting with warm and cool color variations, and identifying tonal relationships. Ultimately, students in this course will learn to unite the different zones of light and space together into a cohesive whole.
