The Subversive Thread Art Cart: Stitching Stories with Jennifer McBrien
Thursday, February 13, 4:30 - 7 pm
Explore the art of embroidery and its connection to storytelling, line drawing, and mark-making at The Subversive Thread Art Cart. Throughout the exhibition’s run, this mobile art-making station will be available every Thursday evening from 5–7 pm, inviting visitors to experiment with embroidery techniques guided by a teaching artist. Inspired by the work of fiber artists featured in The Subversive Thread, this drop-in program offers examples of stitches and materials for creating your own textile art.
This Thursday, stitch with Subversive Thread artist Jennifer McBrien. If you are new to the art, learn some basic embroidery stitches, or, if you are inspired by the exhibition, feel free to bring a unique piece of fabric to do your stitching on, as well as a concept of design. McBrien will be in the gallery from 4:30 until the lecture Threads of Disruption: A Contemporary Craft Conversation at 6 pm.
Accessible options are available for visitors with disabilities, ensuring that everyone can experience the art of embroidery in their own unique way. Whether you’re a seasoned stitcher or new to fiber arts, this hands-on experience brings a tactile dimension to the exhibition’s themes of identity, craft, and creativity.
