“Unraveling Narratives” is a thought-provoking monthly film series that explores the themes of The Subversive Thread through a carefully curated selection of films, including documentaries and narrative features. Each film in the series delves into topics such as identity, labor, subversion, and craft—mirroring the exhibition’s exploration of fiber art and its intersections with culture and value.
The films, selected in collaboration with the exhibiting artists—Han Cao, Jennifer McBrien, Michael-Birch Pierce, and Stacey Lee Webber—will offer viewers new perspectives on the connections between material culture and storytelling. Each screening will be followed by a facilitated discussion, inviting attendees to reflect on the connections between the film’s themes and the artworks in the exhibition.
Enhance your experience of Drive-In and Unraveling Narratives with the Academy Art Museum’s Film Pass. Available for $25 for members and $35 for non-members, the pass provides access to all scheduled films from January through April.
