Navigating Change in Landscape Painting: Visiting Artist Workshop with Teddy Johnson
April 25th & 26th, 11am - 3:30pm

Two-day Workshop, April 25 & 26, 11am – 3:30pm
This workshop explores strategies for painting a world in flux. When painting from home the interior is easier to control, while the exterior view changes constantly. Sunlight, changing weather, parking cars, construction crews, and “people being people” can change a landscape significantly over the course of just a few hours. While challenging to deal with, these shifting elements are at the heart of what makes working from the landscape so rewarding. In this two-day workshop, we will explore techniques for painting a world that is constantly in motion.
Teddy Johnson’s paintings explore storytelling, history, color, culture, and form. Solo exhibits include: The Matney Gallery, The American Poetry Museum, The Bromo Seltzer Arts Tower, MK Gallery, and the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley. His work has also been exhibited at Art Gwangju, the Pearl Museum of Fine Art, Studio 39, Current Space, the Peale Museum, and St. Charles Projects. He completed artist residencies at La Macina di San Cresi in Chianti Italy in 2022, 23, 24 and 25. Teddy is currently the Academic Chair of Visual Arts and an Associate Professor of Visual Arts at Anne Arundel Community College, where he also served as the Cade Gallery Director from 2017-23. His education includes a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art, an MFA from The Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia, and two semesters of study in Cortona, Italy.
