Woodblock printing offers artists the ability to create multiple full-color prints from a single block. In this two-day workshop, students will come up with an initial drawing, transfer it to a woodblock, carve key outlines, paint the block, and print the image on Japanese printing paper. The resulting artworks are rich with nuance because they pick up the texture of both the woodblock and the paper itself. The instructor will demo techniques and provide support every step of the way. Attendees will be provided with most of the necessary materials, including a woodblock, Japanese printing paper, and a carving tool. They will produce at least one modest-sized print (8″ x 11″) by the end of the workshop. They should bring their own watercolor paints and brushes. All levels are welcome. Minimum of 5 students, maximum of 14.
